What is Zenga?

STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. Merrithew Health & Fitness™ founders Lindsay and Moira Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists plus sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent over two decades refining the acclaimed STOTT PILATES® method of exercise and equipment. This refined method results in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and rehabilitation – making it one of the safest and most effective methods available.

This focused intention helps to develop the body-mind intelligence, making a significant difference in the attainment of your fitness goals.

We also educate on the importance of conditioning the intrinsic muscles that support the joints when lengthening and strengthening the muscular structure.  Learning the correct body mechanics when performing Pilates exercises gives the work integrity and promotes a sense of authenticity through movement.

As precise as this method is, your instructor knows the importance of having fun and bringing humor and insight to the session for a positive learning experience!

Application of the Five Basic Principles ensures the exercises are implemented with precision and fosters fundamental body awareness.  The Basic Principles also teach an individual her neutral spinal position as well as breathing techniques that assist core stabilization and the importance of shoulder stabilization throughout movement.

The STOTT PILATES® method incorporates the Five Basic Principles of Alignment within each exercise:

1. Breathing

2. Pelvic Placement

3. Rib Cage Placement

4. Scapular Movement & Stabilization

5. Head & Cervical Placement

ZEN•GA and CORE were developed exclusively by Merrithew Health & Fitness experts and introduced at the Community of Excellence Conference in 2012. Amanda is now integrating ZEN•GA and CORE into her programs to bring diversity and creativity through exercises that challenge your extension and expansion, coordination and agility, increasing the demand of your neuromuscular system.

ZEN•GA introduces small props and the revolutionary V2 Max Plus Reformer along with exclusive accessories to add variety and challenge to many ZEN•GA programs. Always keeping the Basic Principles in mind, ZEN•GA was created with a yoga influence to bring stamina, resilience, and enhanced core stability through exercises that give a sense of expansion through movement. The mindful movement increases a focused, calming, yet dynamic state of presence.

CORE Athletic Conditioning & Performance Training, when integrated within your STOTT PILATES® programs, will help to jump start your metabolism. CORE targets core strength and focuses on the Basic Principles through functional fitness and kinesthetic awareness. Practicing CORE exercises will improve precision, control, agility, and strength from the core that will transfer to any activity or sport of choice.
